Born on 5th July, 1962 at Vadodara in the family of Judges and Lawyers. Father late Mr Justice Jitendra P Desai was a Judge of the High Court of Gujarat from 1983 to 1989. Graduated in B.A ( Economics) from St. Xaviers' College, Ahmedabad, in the year 1982. Obtained Law Degree from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad, in the year 1985. Was enrolled as an Advocate with Bar Council of Gujarat on 27.11.1985.

Joined the Office of Advocate Mr. M.C.Bhatt and Mrs. Daksha M. Bhatt. Started practice initially at the City Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad and since 1991 at the High Court of Gujarat. Appointed as Assistant Government Pleader in the year 1994 and as Additional Public Prosecutor in the year 1995 and continued to work till elevation. Was appointed as Central Government Standing Counsel during 2006 to 2009. Was on the panel of Gujarat Electricity Board as well as on the panel of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited. Appeared in large number of cases in various branches of law including matters of constitutional importance and involving great public interest. Appeared in large number of all types of civil and criminal cases.

His Lordship was elevated as an Additional Judge, High Court of Gujarat on 21st November, 2011 and confirmed as permanent Judge on 06.09.2013.

Appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat w.e.f. 26th February 2023.

His lordship was the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat till 21st July 2023.

Appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala on 22nd July 2023.
