Full Profile :
After completing B.Sc.(Hons.) in Chemistry from St. Xavier's College, Calcutta, he enrolled in LL.B in Sir L.A.Shah Law College Ahmedabad in 1993. After graduating in 1996, he joined the Chambers of Late Kirit N Raval, Senior Advocate to start his practice in the Gujarat High Court. On Mr. Raval's appointment as ASG in 1998, he shifted his practice to the Supreme Court from September 1998 to join Mr. Raval at Delhi, till his untimely death in 2005, upon which, he started his independent practice at the Supreme Court.
From 1999 to 2004, he was a panel counsel with the Union of India where he assisted apart from Mr. Raval, Mr. Soli Sorabjee, Mr. Harish Salve, Mr. Mukul Rohatgi, Mr. Nageswara Rao, etc.
Subsequently, he has assisted Mr. Rohinton Nariman, Mr. Uday Lalit, Mr. Tushar Mehta, Mr. Jaideep Gupta, Mr. P.S.Narasimha, Mr. K.V.Viswanathan, etc., in various Supreme Court cases; prior to his designation as Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in January 2024.
He had extensive practice and appeared in over 2000 cases in the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, NCLAT, etc., and has more than 60 out of 200 reported judgments where he has led the arguments in various branches of Law. His main area of practice was appellate proceedings arising out of criminal and writ jurisdictions. He has also appeared in several arbitrations; including international arbitration and has been appointed Arbitrator by the Delhi High Court in many cases.
His father Mr. G.N.Ray is a former Judge of the Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court, and was Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. His wife is an AOR in the Supreme Court and elder daughter, an advocate at New Delhi.
He speaks 4 languages; including Gujarati. He is fond of western music and is an avid Formula 1 fan.
