Born on April 9, 1916 and received his education at the Board High School, Nandulur, Ceded District College, Anantpur and then at Presidency College, Madras. He took his degree from Law College, Madras. He was enrolled as an Advocate on July 26, 1943 and practiced in the Madras High Court till June, 1954. His Lordship gave an early promise of a prominent carrier at the Bar and soon established reputation as an industrious and studious Advocate. In view of the promising carrier he was appointed as District & Sessions Judge in the newly formed State of Andhra Pradesh on January 15, 1955.
Hon'ble Mr. Justice Reddi, after about 11 years service as District and Sessions Judge was elevated to the Bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court on July 8, 1966. As a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court His Lordship with his deep and sound knowledge of law, earned respect from the Members of the Bar. He was appointed as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh on June 1, 1974 where His Lordship with unfailing courtesy, scrupulous ability and impartiality discharged the High Judicial Office. He acted as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 25.1.1975 to 10.1.1976.
The President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India in the exercise of his powers conferred on him under Art.222 of the Constitution of India, has transferred the Hon'ble Mr. S. Obul Reddi to the Gujarat High Court as Chief Justice of High Court of Gujarat.
His Lordship was then transferred to Andhra Pradesh and retired as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court on 18.8.1977.
