Born on 13th August 1928 at village Puliyangudi in Mannargudi Taluka of Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu in an agriculturist family. He had his early education at Hindu High School, Triplicane, Madras and graduated from the Presidency College, Madras and also took Law degree from the Law College Madras.

Joined as an apprentice under Justice Venkatachari of Madras High Court and later worked as junior under Justice C. A. Vaidyalingam who later became Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Worked as Junior to Justice K. Ramchandra Rao also of the Madras High Court and soon had lucrative practice both on the civil and criminal side.

Was also selected as Member of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu twice. Also served as Member of the All India Bar Council. In 1967, was appointed as State Public Prosecutor and later as Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, during which he appeared and conducted several famous cases both in the High Court of Madras as well as the Supreme Court of India. Also argued the famous shooting in which one of the cine actors known as Thiru M. R. Radha shot the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Hon'ble Mr. G. Ramachandran.

In 1969 was appointed as Judge of the Madras High Court and also acted as the Chief Justice of the said High Court for over one and a half year.

He is also connected with many social and religious institutions and organizations. He was also the Chairman of the 125th year Celebration of the Madras University which was inaugurated by the President of India Mr. Zail Singh. He has religious bent of mind and has attended number of religious conferences. He took keen interest in various activities of life and acted as the Chairman of the Selection Committee for State Awards to best Tamil Feature films artist etc. He was also one of the Judges for selecting bests in the international films for the Film Utstav held at Madras.

His elder brothers also occupied highest offices in the State organizations and one of his sons is also a Doctor.

Sworn in as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat on March the 21st 1985.
